Colour crush ~ Coral and Mint

Coral and mint, watermelon and turquoise, raspberry and teal, peach and pistachio or just plain pink and green. Whatever you want to call it, the combination is beautifully fresh. Placed together or separately, I’m seeing these summery hues a lot at the moment in interior design, particularly mint and turquoise. Perhaps it’s the spring air getting to me here in Holland, but I just can’t get enough of fresh mint combined with cool coral.

There’s a very odd little tree in our back garden. I came very close to chopping its twig-like figure down last year, but I’m glad my better half stopped me in my tracks. The once bare skeleton of a tree is now covered head to toe in the most spectacular coral coloured blooms. It looks beautiful, even if the rest of our garden still echoes a chilly winter that is struggling to depart us for the year.

I just had to steal a twig or two of these blossoms and throw them into a vase, because they are a reminder that (though I'm seriously starting to doubt this fact) summer is on its way. I arranged a couple of stems into a pale mint coloured Jamie Oliver pitcher I plucked from the kitchen, and was struck by the combination of these two lovely colours. Fabulously fresh, a touch of these colours, alone or together, in any room are sure lift the spirits!

Having trawled the net to bring you some inspiration, I have found this combination is not too common. Surprising, because they are just so lovely together. Because they are both such strong colours in their own right, however, they can overpower a room very quickly. The best way to incorporate them into your home is to add accents of each colour in the form of throw cushions, fresh flowers, upholstery and crockery.

I adore the use of these colours in a baby nursery. Soft and dreamy, they are not too feminine, not too masculine. Again, a few accessories in a neutral setting will strike the balance perfectly.

Have a beautiful weekend, lovely readers. Wishing all you fabulous mummies out there a very happy Mother's Day! It's my first :)
